What changed
P.J. Washington has made availability his leading priority entering the season. In an official Mavericks story published Thursday evening, Dwain Price reported that Washington missed 25 games two seasons ago and 26 last season.
Washington said his offseason emphasis included consistent work in the weight room and taking better care of his body. That is a preparation goal, not a guarantee about future health, but it gives us a concrete measure for camp: whether he can keep building without interruptions.
Dallas is still sorting through lineups under Dusty May. A steadier run from Washington would give the coaching staff more continuity while those combinations take shape.
OUR INTERPRETATION
Why Dallas fans care
Our read: Washington’s value is not limited to one lineup slot. His size and two-way versatility make him useful across several combinations, so availability would give May more freedom to test the roster instead of solving around another absence.
