What changed

Dallas started its final roster trim Saturday by waiving John Poulakidas and Seth Lundy. Poulakidas had been on a two-way contract; Lundy was in camp on an Exhibit 10 deal. Their departures reduce the camp group and leave Dallas with an open two-way slot.

The moves did not settle the bigger standard-roster question. RealGM reports that Dallas still has 16 players on standard contracts, one above the regular-season maximum. The NBA’s current roster page still lists Dwight Powell among the active players, but the club has not announced which standard contract will be moved.

Poulakidas leaves after a useful late-season audition. He averaged 8.8 points in 13 games last season and shot 40.3 percent from three. Lundy appeared in all four exhibitions this month and averaged 5.5 points in 12 minutes per game, according to D210SPORTS.

For fans, the important distinction is contract lane. Releasing a two-way player and an Exhibit 10 camp player can open development opportunities without resolving the 15-man NBA roster. The next confirmed transaction—not speculation around any one player—will tell us how Dallas finishes the job.

OUR INTERPRETATION

Why Dallas fans care

Interpretation: Poulakidas’ shooting made him interesting, but this pair of waivers is best understood as preliminary housekeeping. Dallas’ real opening-night tradeoff remains untouched until a standard contract leaves the roster.
