What changed

Marcus Sasser’s first meaningful Mavericks run came in familiar territory. Back in Houston, where he played college basketball, he scored 17 points in 24 minutes and made 6 of 8 shots, including 4 of 5 from three.

That matters because left-adductor tightness kept Sasser out of Dallas’ first three preseason games and limited his finale appearance to 12 minutes. After Wednesday’s game, he said his body felt the best it had since the summer, while still pointing to on-ball defense as an area he could improve.

One efficient night does not settle the second unit. It does show a useful combination Dallas needed: quick shooting, some pick-and-roll control and enough confidence to attack while the starters reset. The next test is whether those possessions hold up when the shot is not falling.

OUR INTERPRETATION

Why Dallas fans care

Interpretation: Sasser earned a longer look, not a guaranteed role. His best path is making Dallas more organized and aggressive without needing a high-volume scoring night every time.
