What changed

Marcus Sasser’s expected debut became real Friday. After left-adductor tightness kept him out of Dallas’ first three preseason games, the guard played 12 minutes against Atlanta and scored five points on 2-of-4 shooting, including one three.

The small sample did not answer how Dusty May will use him once the regular season begins. It did give Sasser one live stretch in the new offense and defense after weeks spent learning from the sideline.

The next question is role rather than availability: whether Sasser can earn minutes as a secondary ball-handler and floor spacer when Dallas needs another guard to relieve pressure from Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg.

OUR INTERPRETATION

Why Dallas fans care

Interpretation: Sasser's debut is a useful clearance point, not proof of a rotation spot. His opportunity will depend on whether he can provide low-mistake handling and reliable shooting without giving back too much defensively.
